6 months Research and Development internship: Elaboration of functionalized core-shell nanodiamonds for biomedical applications

The project

The fluorescence properties of the NV center of nanodiamonds (NDs) are the basis of several applications in different fields including biology. However, the diversity and heterogeneity of the NDs surface limit their use. Coating NDs with an inorganic layer in a core-shell structure could help to enhance their properties and their colloidal stability in complex biological media. Thus, the intern will participate to elaborate the core-shell structures based on NDs. These nanohybrids will be functionalized to be used for biomedical applications such as the detection of specific analytes (for example proteins). He/she will optimize the experimental protocols and characterize the functionalized and non-functionalized nanomaterials using different characterization techniques (DLS, IR spectroscopy, microscopy…).

The intern will by surrounded by different engineers in the team to complete his/her tasks. He/she will take part of transverse tasks of the R&D team of WAINVAM-E: bibliography, meetings, reports, he/she might also be in contact with academic laboratories and companies, in France and abroad.

The candidate

We are looking for a motivated candidate with an equivalent of Bac +5 (Master 2 or engineering student) in chemistry, with strong knowledge in nanomaterial properties and characterization, basics of optics and atomic physics. An interest in biosensing is a plus. Curiosity, rigour, creativity and the ability to evolve in a multidisciplinary environment are expected. Good relational skills and good English level are essential.
